Farmers’ Markets are a great choice for buying delicious and fresh local produce. If you use your own reusable bags, here are just a few safety tips to consider:

* Wash your bags often. Cloth bags can be laundered in the washing machine while plastic-lined bags need to be hand-washed with soap and water.
* Store your bags in the house at room temperature. Try not to store them in hot places like vehicles where bacteria can grow and thrive.
* Bring insulated bags or a cooler with you to keep refrigerated items like meat, eggs and cheese cold until you get home.
* Store raw meats in one bag and fresh produce or ready-to-eat foods in a separate bag.

With just a few simple precautions, you can make sure you enjoy all the benefits of buying fresh and local!
