For a Healthful Taste Sensation, Enjoy the Fruit that Acts Like a Vegetable!

Only in the United States is the tomato considered a vegetable. Botanically it’s a vine fruit but we’re so serious about our veggies that in 1893, the Supreme Court actually ruled that the tomato was a vegetable. Regardless, we treat it as a veggie in the kitchen.

Ripe Florida tomatoes look good and taste great but they’ve got more going for them than that. That ripe redness means that tomatoes are also rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that may prevent certain cancers and promote heart health. A disease fighting food, fresh tomatoes are a good source of essential nutrients including vitamins A and C, potassium and fiber. Any way you slice it, tomatoes are a great summer choice!
