Pest Alert! Walnut Caterpillar

Walnut Caterpillar

Damage to Pecan trees has been spotted in North Santa Rosa County. Some trees have been completely defoliated. The larvae feed on Walnut, Pecan, and various Hickory species.  All sizes of the host trees can be attacked, but usually the most damage is isolated to a few specimens.  The greatest amount of injury is commonly seen in August.  Severe infestations rarely occur but if it does happen the caterpillar usually effects a localized area for two years.  Have you seen any damage from the Walnut Caterpillar?
